Campaigning for Clinton, Steinem goes over the top

So will Hillary Clinton disown Gloria Steinem's discussion about John McCain?

Feminist icon Gloria Steinem took to the stump on Hillary Clinton’s behalf here last night . . .

Steinem raised McCain’s Vietnam imprisonment as she sought to highlight an alleged gender-based media bias against Clinton.

“Suppose John McCain had been Joan McCain and Joan McCain had got captured, shot down and been a POW for eight years. [The media would ask], ‘What did you do wrong to get captured? What terrible things did you do while you were there as a captive for eight years?’” Steinem said, to laughter from the audience.

McCain was, in fact, a prisoner of war for around five-and-a-half years, during which time he was tortured repeatedly. Referring to his time in captivity, Steinem said with bewilderment, “I mean, hello? This is supposed to be a qualification to be president? I don’t think so.”

Steinem’s broader argument was that the media and the political world are too admiring of militarism in all its guises.

“I am so grateful that she [Clinton] hasn’t been trained to kill anybody. And she probably didn’t even play war games as a kid. It’s a great relief from Bush in his jump suit and from Kerry saluting.” . . .

Didn't Hillary just brag about duck hunting? I might be mistaken, but that usually involves shooting a living creature to death.

She also said she used a rifle, which is very hard and very illegal.

Hello Steinem... anyone there?

Did you know that the president is in fact the commander in chief of the military? Wow, maybe it IS a good idea for a president to have some understanding of military operations and the respect of those in the military he/she may ask to step into harms way to defend our freedoms. Sheesh what an idiot.

By the way, Wesley Clark, the former General who bombed Serbia but was afraid to use ground troops (and has been in bed with the Clintons for quite awhile), denigrated McCain by saying Hillary is more prepared to be CIC. His reasoning was that McCain was a pilot, not an infantryman like Clark. Well, I met Clark and he is a psycho of the first order. Secondly, the infantry is always jealous of the glamorous flyboys. McCain proved by flying dangerous missions and surviving the most brutal captivity one could imagine that he is tougher than the other two empty suits and that he has the proper respect for the use of force. God bless him.

I am a former Marine Corps infantry officer.
