Media keeps on pushing notion that there is substantial anti-Mormonism

The Los Angeles Times reports:

With one Mormon leading the pack for the Republican presidential nomination and another scheduled to announce his candidacy on Tuesday, a significant bloc of American voters continues to oppose followers of that religion, according to a Gallup poll released Monday.

About one in five Republicans, or 18%, said they would not vote for a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the official name of the Mormon church. About the same proportion of independents said they would oppose a Mormon while a larger number of Democrats, about 27%, said they were opposed, according to the poll. . . .

It is good to see that the LA Times acknowledges that polls show greater anti-Mormonism among Democrats, but the question of anti-Mormonism among Republicans really can't be too bad for a simple reason: the probability that a Republican nominee will Mormon is close to 50%, indeed it is according to Intrade it is 45.5% and that is despite the fact that both Romney and Huntsman have real flaws. Romney not only have Romneycare and a very long list of flip-flops to defend, but Huntsman had a poor campaign launch and was Obama's Ambassador to China.
